Farm Adventure in Alabama

Late last fall, the girls and I took a road trip to McDowell Farm School in Nauvoo, Alabama to visit a friend who was interning there. We got the grand tour which included: feeding the pigs, petting the bunnies, feeding the chickens, checking for eggs, and digging for “treasures” aka sweet potatoes. The girls  had such a blast that they keep asking if we can go back.  (Unfortunately, it’s almost an 8-hour drive.) I’m always looking for activities that they can do to  unplug, because, let’s be honest, they’d watch Netflix 24-7, if I let them.

It’s always fun watching my friends without kids interact with the tater tot and small fry. My heart melted a little when the girls walked hand-in-hand with my friends around the farm looking for the next adventure.

Teel had been working at the farm school for a few months teaching school-aged kids about the farm, and she was so great and patient with them. They were really into it, especially when they got to use the hose to water the plants. How great is it when your mom encourages you to get your hands dirty, and dig in the dirt!
